New CMS Report: “Military technological situational awareness – a new strategic challenge in Danish defence policy"
In the new CMS Report “Military technological situational awareness – a new strategic challenge in Danish defence policy”, Director Henrik Breitenbauch and Research Assistant Jens Vesterlund Mathiesen analyse, how Denmark generates knowledge about the rapidly evolving military technological development.
The authors introduce the term “military technological situational awareness” as a particular state competence, which is separate from the acquisition of large-scale military technology although it does support these processes. The term covers the ability to monitor and understand the military technological development in order to support decision-making.
The report emphasizes that military technological situational awareness is becoming still more important, but that small states like Denmark have a limited capacity to increase this awareness. However, the report also identifies a number of potentials for the Danish military technological network which can contribute to the development of the Danish military technological situational awareness. These potentials include the formulation of a Danish military innovation policy.
The report is published in cooperation with DJØF Publishing.
