The Battle for Mosul

“Mosul is one of the worst places for a military operation you can imagine at all because you can’t communicate and it has the perfect conditions for ambush.”

Iraqi government forces are now in the suburbs of Mosul and the final battle against ISIS is getting closer. Director of Centre for Military Studies, Henrik Breitenbauch, commented on the most recent development at Tv2 News this morning.

It is assumed that around 1 mio. civilians still live inside Mosul and their lives are in serious danger. Henrik explains that it is crucial the cooperation between the coalition and the Iraqi government forces is building on trust, so the coalition air support is called upon at the right times, and with no human shields nearby.

You can see the video and read the article (in Danish) in which Henrik explains why the fighting in Mosul is so complicated here.
