New research grant on deterrence

Deterrence is an important strategic practice in the security and defence policies of states and alliances. But how can we understand the effects of deterrence and what political and psychological consequences does it have for the societies practicing it?

These questions and more will be investigated in a new multi-year research project RITUAL DETERRENCE at the Centre for Military Studies on the Department of Political Science. Senior Researcher at CMS Maria Mälksoo will lead the project which is financed by The European Research Council. Maria has been awarded an ERC Consolidator Grant to establish a research team for the project.
