New CMS Report on Nordic reactions to developments in European defence and security policy

In 2016, the EU launched its new global strategy, ”Shared Vision, Common Action: A stronger Europe”. The purpose of the newly published CMS report ”Aktiv afventning: Nordiske perspektiver på europæisk forsvars- og sikkerhedspolitisk samarbejde” is to analyse how Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden have responded to this development in EU security and defence policy. The report shows how the four countries, despite their differences, have reacted in a relatively similar fashion, which can be characterized as “aktiv afventning” (active hedging).

Based on this conclusion, the report presents a number of recommendation on how to strengthen the position of Denmark and the Nordic region in European security.
