Katja Lindskov Jacobsen appointed Interim Director at CMS

From 1 February, Senior Researcher Katja Lindskov Jacobsen is appointed Interim Director of the Centre for Military Studies (CMS) at the Department of Political Science. She replaces Kristian Søby Kristensen, who has taken up the position as Director of the Institute for Strategy and War Studies at the Royal Danish Defence College.

Katja has been Senior Researcher at CMS since 1 May 2016 and from October 2023 also appointed Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science on the promotion programme of the University of Copenhagen. She holds a PhD in International Relations from Lancaster University and an MA in Global Politics from the London School of Economics and Political Science. She has many years of experience in research, publications, research-based services for public authorities and dissemination, including on Danish defence and security policy with a focus on maritime security, security technology and interventions in Africa.

Her research has been referenced in UN Security Council debates on maritime security and in reports by the UN Special Rapporteur on the protection of human rights while countering terrorism. In 2024, she was appointed by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg to an independent group of experts, who - as part of NATO's reflection process - analysed challenges and opportunities in the alliance's southern neighbourhood. The results of the expert group's work are published in a report that can be read here.
