Seminar: Aiding Ukraine: Past, present and future
For more than three years, Ukraine has endured invasion and assault by Russian forces, costing billions of dollars and thousands of lives. Throughout the conflict, Ukraine has received high levels of humanitarian and military aid from the West, with both NGO’s and Western governments providing both in large quantities.
With the ties between Europe and the US now fraying over the Trump administration’s wish for a speedy end to the conflict and a general withdrawal from European defense affairs, Ukraine and Europe are looking into an uncertain future. No matter the outcome of the conflict, one thing is certain – Ukraine will need further aid to rebuild and strengthen its defense, economy and civil society.
The Center for Military Studies therefore invites the public and key stakeholders in the efforts of aiding Ukraine to a panel debate on what dynamics help to shape the military and humanitarian aid efforts. To provide as broad a picture of the complex effort as possible, the debate will include international NGOs as well as Danish and Ukrainian military and governmental officials, who can help illuminate what strategies have been employed in the past, and which are looking necessary for the future.
How Europe manages to aid Ukraine going forward will be of critical importance to the future of not only Ukraine, but also the European Union and NATO. With Denmark being one of the foremost nations in this effort, there is need to take a closer look at how this has, is and will be facilitated.
